53. wish 后賓語從句有何特點？

【教材原句】

She wished she could tell her neighbour face to face that she was sorry not to be able to do it any longer, but she knew that was too dangerous. (p. 4)

譯文：她多么希望她能夠面對面地告訴她的鄰居她很遺憾，因為她不能再這樣開心地遛狗了，但她知道那太危險了。

【用法說明】

wish 后接賓語從句，表示“但愿……”“要是……多好”，此時通常表示一種愿望（尤其指難以實現的愿望），因此從句謂語要用虛擬語氣：

指將來情況用“could, would, might+動詞原形”；

指現在（或當時）的情況通常用過去時；

指過去情況用過去完成時。

請看以下例句：

I wish she were not married. 我真希望她沒結婚。

I wish I could do something for you in return. 我希望我能做點什么回報你。

I wish she hadn’t spent the money. 但愿她沒把這錢花掉。

【用法補充】

句中的 face to face 意為“面對面”。如：

His ambition was to meet his favourite pop star face to face. 他心向往之的是要面對面地見見他心目中的流行曲歌星。

The two rival politicians came face to face in a TV interview. 那兩個對立的政客面對面地一起接受電視訪問。

54. 表示“與……不同”，different 后接什么介詞？

When the street lights go on at dusk, they make a beautiful picture, so different from the daytime. (p.4)

譯文：當街上的燈在黃昏時亮的時候，它們成了一幅美麗的圖畫，與白天完全不一樣。

【用法說明】

表示“與……不同”，different 后習慣上接介詞 from。如：

City life is very different from country life. 城市生活與農村生活很不相同。

This edition is a lot different from the earlier one. 這個版本與早先的那個版本大不相同。

The new school isn’t much different from the old one. 新學校與老學校區別并不太大。

The English are rather different from the Scottish in many ways. 英格蘭人有許多方面與蘇格蘭人不同。

The driver’s version of the accident was different from the eyewitness’s. 那司機對該車禍的說法與目擊者不同。

除后接介詞 from 外，有時也接 to（英國英語）或 to（美國英語），但兩者均不如用from 普遍。如：

He is different from [to, than] me. 他與我不同。

American cars are different from [to, than] ours. 美國造的汽車和我們的不一樣。
