49. 如何理解be upset 后接 that 從句的用法?

【教材原句】

Anne’s sister, Margot, was very upset that the family had to move. (p. 4)

譯文：安妮的妹妹瑪戈特非常不安，因為她們一家不得不要搬家。

【用法說明】

be upset 后有時可接 that 從句，表示原因。如：

He was upset that Mr. Raid was leaving. 雷德先生要走了他很難過。

Debbie was upset that he didn’t spend more time with her. 黛比感到不高興，因為他沒有花更多的時間來陪她。

◆類似的還有 be glad that, be sorry that, be happy that 等。如：

She was glad that she had controlled herself. 她很高興她控制住了自己。　　

He was sorry that we had lost the game. 我們比賽輸了，他感到遺憾。　　

I’m happy that you could visit us. 我很高興你能來看望我們。　　

50. however 表轉折時有何特點？

However, she knew that she had got to go through all the difficulties with her family. (p. 4)　　

譯文：但是，她知道她必須要同她的家人一起渡過所有這些困難。　　

【用法說明】　　

however 表示轉折時，與 but 用法不同。　　

1. 表示轉折時，but 是連詞。如：　　

He is young but very experienced. 他雖年輕，但經驗很豐富。　　

2. however表示轉折時（意為“然而”“可是”），有的詞書認為它是連詞，有的詞書認為它是副詞。之所以將其視為副詞，也許是因為像許多副詞一樣不僅能位于句首，而且能位于句中（注意前后使用逗號），甚至句末（注意其前也用逗號）。如：　　

Later, however, he changed his mind. 可是他后來改變了主意。　　

He said that it was so; he was mistaken, however. 他說情況如此，可是他錯了。　　

注：以上各例中的 however 不能換成 but，但可用 but 來改寫。如：　　

He said that it was so, but he was mistaken. 他說情況如此，可他錯了。
